Gong Li Joining Donnie Yen And Takeshi Kaneshiro In Peter Chan's ONE ARMED SWORDSMAN Remake?

Well, there's a cast and a half. With Donnie Yen and Takeshi Kaneshiro already signed on to star in Peter Chan's remake of Chang Cheh's One Armed Swordman - Chan's version is currently being referred to simply as Wuxia - word is now out that Chan has offered one of the female leads to Gong Li.

Apparently Chan visited the set of the Chinese remake of Mel Gibson's What Women Want - I did not make that up - which Li is starring in to offer her the role. He is still waiting for a response. There are rumors that Tang Wei has been offered the other female lead but Chan has denied those.

Donnie Yen is also on board to choreograph the fight scenes.

Yeah um don't see Gong intrested in doing something like this. She turned down a role in WKW's kung fu flick.

Don't see it happening Todd.

Do we really need another version? I'm not against it, but it's going to be really hard to top Tsui Hark's 90s version.

If this by some miracle lights a fire under Warner Bros. ass to get THE BLADE out on proper English subtitled DVD (and dare I even hope for a Blu-ray?) then there's not enough percents in the world to indicate the percentage of my support for this umpteenth OAS remake. Ultimately, I liked Chan's last Shaw Bros. remake quite a bit (screw the cut US release though)... so even minus a reissue of THE BLADE, sure, why not?

THE BLADE was the remake of one armed swordsman? didnt know that. hed. regarding donnie yen taking over this project...well i havent seen either blade or the original. is there anything iconic about the original that would make the remake worth watching? IMO the best remakes completely outshine the original forgettable version ( inglourious basterds) or are just half-ass it ( departed). no middle ground. has anyone seen the original and if so what did they like about it?

The original is a classic, but is hasn't aged very well. Hark gave the remake a very different look and feel. A very dark and gritty look that you rarely see in martial arts flicks. If they want to remake some old shaw bros flicks there are plenty to pick from.

As for Peter Chan's remake of Blood Brothers, i felt it was just ok, it dragged to much, had vaguely written characters and just felt too melodramatic in several places.

I think we need a Peter Chan version.

Blade was dark and gritty? nice, must check it out. Wish Donnie Yen would try something a bit more original tho. Getting a bit tired of all these swordflicks where i have to fastforward past lamely fleshed out characters to the action. I know its kung fu but i think real fanboys know what im on about . Not to say this remake will be like that...open mind and that..and Peter Chan...dragged too much..melodramatic...vaguely written characters...just wish i could say i was a fan of his directing as he does seem to get all the epics to direct...

No more unoriginal than terribly predictable MA action movies with more action and no meaning. It's about time someone gave a kick to the then dry and dying HK MA action movies by combining expertized film-making and actual storytelling with creative action choreography. Yes thanks, gimme more.

That being said, I look forward to this. Donnie and Peter Chan combined is enough for some greatness. Now, this only needs more martial artists casted and it's a go.
