Bollywood Loses Even More Of Its Mind With ENTHIRAN THE ROBOT

by Todd Brown, August 2, 2010 5:38 PM

Just when you think Bollywood couldn't possibly get any weirder, it does. Why, you may ask, is Aishwarya Rai all decked out in metal in that photo? Well, because she's in a musical titled Enthiran The Robot, of course! And why is the trailer contained in such a gaudy frame? Could you do any less when your film stars Super Star Rajni? Bizarre and hysterical both come leaping to mind when watching the assortment of trailers and music clips that have recently found their way online ...

Music, incidentally, is by AR Rahman of Slumdog Millionaire fame and, yes, it's in 3D.

Just shot to the top of my "must see" list.

And that's truth.

I've had my eye on Endhiran for a year. Hits theaters September 3rd, I have 3 Indian theaters within spitting distance and providing that there are English subtitles, I'll be there opening night. Rajnikanth is a force to be reckoned with, I suggest everyone seek out Sivaji from a couple of years ago. Amazing film.

I've got a Tamil theater close to me as well and am hoping it'll play there. If you catch it, we'd love a review!

Oh shi- they have Rajni! Now that should be a good sign of some stupid crazy bollywood fun.

As a strong defender of Bollywood film (even though I realize that many of them are horrible), I have to say that this is not a Bollywood film. Though we do have Aishwarya Rai, but it is definitely a South Indian film. They are per definition crazier. If you don't believe me, then watch the Indian "Thriller" on youtube. This is a Tamil film, but it will be simultaneously released in Telugu (another South Indian language) and Hindi. So keep your faith in Hindi films (that is if you had any to begin with) and rest assured that this is a Tamil film.

Technically this would be Kollywood. Too many "'woods" to keep track of. Aishwariya Rai has done a few Tamil features, including a pretty good one in "Kandukondain Kandukondain". Southie films are easily more ridiculous than their Hindi counterparts, and I mean that as a compliment.

Endhiran , The Robot - boasts the biggest budget in India (around 50 million dollors) .. Its sure not Bollywood, Its a Tamil movie, But its better than Bollywood.. And its an Indian movie which can match up to Hollywood movies (except for the musical, which is an added package for our entertainment) .. Its just the beginning...
Check out the new trailer in this link... This one is the latest theatrical trailer..

Enthiran is a copy of the Hollywood Movie I Robot. Let us not forget that.
Kalanidhi Maran is where he is today ONLY because he is the grand nephew of Karunanidhi. Let us not forget that too. Any commoner who reads this article cannot dream of starting a TV station, let alone own his own plane like Kalanidhi Maran. Family politics rule in Tamil Nadu. When will the people become objective instead of being sycophants?
Enthiran is a shameless copy of the Hollywood film I Robot. After 10 mins, can the audience stand endless computer generated images with a poor story line? Right now the Rajini crazy fans are seeing the movie. Will the non crazy objective people like it? I doubt it.
In a country like India where people starve, why do the crazy Rajini fans pour milk over a photo of Rajini when they could feed hungry kids with that milk and why is Rajini remaining dumb to this?
Think before you reply, my friend and you will agree with me. If you don't, either you are incapable of thinking or Rajini fever is clouding your eyes!

Something tells me you aren't going to like my review.

'Too many woods to keep count of.' Er, then why don't you just call them Tamil/Hindi/(whatever) language films, instead. And this films ridiculous, cause its *meant* to be that way. It's designed as a gaudy, pulpy, cheesy spectacle. To point out the films outrageuousness is like seriously duh. My suggestion is that you educate yourself about the background of a film a little before you write about it, no matter how trivial the article. Especially when you headline it with something like 'Bollywood loses even more of its mind'- Bollywood is an industry producing diverse films- not just gaudy, song and dance spectacles, but also smaller, independent films, unlike how you insist on slotting it... With that typically off-putting, patronizing tone. I rest my case. Whew.
