Is 18 the highest rating for films in UK? Do they have an 'Unrated' over there or is anything over '18' banned?
They need to see it a second time to tell that it's a legitimate film? Gee, that's weird.
I hope Frightfest gets it sorted out and is able to play the film properly.

To be honest, this really doesn't surprise me. When I saw it, I thought that there would be no way in hell the BBFC would pass it in it's current state. And removal or editing of the two scenes that break the particular taboos they hate would seriously destroy the impact this film has. Far better to pull it than to let people see a hacked version that will not only confuse, but remove the impact this film has.
Very sad indeed. I was hoping that the BBFC banning of films would stop after 'Grotesque'. The aforementioned was a pretty shoddy film so my hopes for A Serbian Film getting by the censors unscathed were some what optimistic. Well at least we live in a global economy so an import version will do just fine when it's finally released on DVD. I understand the need for a certain form of censorship but as an adult, or maybe it's the kid inside me, I just doesn't like being told what I can and can't watch.
I must admit I'm surprised that a film festival would fall foul of the same restrictions as normal cinema exhibitors. I thought they'd be able to show films which haven't yet been submitted for certification. Still, as Brett says, the film will be easy enough to pick up online, either by dvd import or illegal download. Personally though I'm choosing not to watch this, no matter how well shot and what the political context or artistic merit might be.
i watched this and im not surprised that theyve decided to pull it, if youve seen the full version then youve got to agree with the BBFC, frightfest is a horror film festival and the audience want to be scared even a little sickened but this is dangerous territory for a movie of this caliber. this shit can fuck you up and releasing it to the masses will cause uproar and will do some damage.not since "Salo" have i been this messed up, then again they say "Salo" is a classic now, so what do i know???
