Yeah, I wasn't a fan of this image from Kenneth Branagh's Thor when it first released. True enough, that. But I've got to say that with the five minute long Comic Con promo reel currently appearing and disappearing online just as fast as people can upload it and Marvel can hit them with copyright infringement claims that what I've seen now looks good. Damn good.
Marvel, a suggestion if you want to win over the skeptics. There's nothing particularly spoiler-y in that reel. Stop chasing it down and removing it and release it in high definition instead. That reel is your friend. Embrace it.

I'm not really feeling the footage from this - it's telling that the most interesting thing in the entire reel for me was Clark Gregg's SHIELD agent character doing the nonchalant bureaucrat thing.
The action looked flat, the Asgard sets (which are likely unfinished, so consider this unqualified bitching) felt like ugly CG flyovers and concept art, and as a lead, Hemsworth just seemed impossibly flat and personality-free.
Maybe there'll be some better footage down the line but I for one have to agree with Marvel that what was shown at the Con is best kept under wraps and is not for general consumption.
I'm going to trust you on this since I've only recently become a member of this site. I've been more than impressed by the coverage that you provide here but I must say Branagh is a really disappointing choice. I'm not one to bitch and whine though, we shall see.
I really hope you are right, Todd. Asgard looks too shiny for me, too Ironman, but I really like the Asgardian characters in the trailer. Ray Stevenson looks funny with all that hair...Hemsworth
sounds just like Heath Ledger here, hope he has got some of that charisma too. I think a lot of it depends on how good Loki is played.
i like the films of Branagh, but i'am not so sure if this is really the right film for him... but i try to look forward to this one.... it's enough time left until the realese... i think we can hope... I do.
I'm Sorry But After Seeing The Trailer, I Felt That It Was Extremely Corny And Cheesy. This Movie Is Going To Flop.
Then Again, Superhero Fad Era Is Almost Dead.
Asgard is definitely a whole lot shinier than I would have chosen to make it myself but after seeing the still images for this I was expecting a full on trainwreck of a film, an absolute shambles. That reel, though, has me thinking it may actually be a fun popcorn film.
The biggest issue it fixed for me was how that very glossy Asgard would feel contrasted to the real world and whether Thor could possibly work in a real world environment that would match the tone of the other recent Marvel films, which it HAS to do if The Avengers is going to work properly. I really expected that would be the killing blow to this film but I thought they pulled it off quite well.
Given the fact that production stills are not finished product, I find that so many people whining about costumes a bit tiring. Do we want them all wearing bright spandex like they did in the comics. Sheesh! Wait till the film actually hits theaters and then see it. Then start your whining.
