ON BLU-RAY, EVERYONE WILL HEAR YOU SCREAM

Sometimes, the scariest things come from within. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment presents one of the most successful and terrifying film franchises of all time when the ALIEN ANTHOLOGY debuts on Blu-ray for the first time ever from October 25 internationally and on October 26 in North America. All four ALIEN films have been reinvigorated for an intense Blu-ray high-definition viewing experience. The release also marks the debut of MU-TH-UR Mode, a fully interactive companion that takes the extensive materials in the ALIEN ANTHOLOGY and puts them in the user's hand - connecting fans to special features on all six discs and instantly providing an index of all available ALIEN content, including over 60 hours of special features and over 12,000 images.

The ALIEN ANTHOLOGY is a truly unique home entertainment experience. For the first time ever, the studio has united the material from every home video release of the ALIEN saga including the 1991/1992 laserdisc releases, the 1999 "Legacy" release and 2003's groundbreaking ALIEN QUADRILOGY release into one complete Blu-ray collection. The set also includes two versions of each film and over four hours of previously unreleased exclusive material such as original screentests of Sigourney Weaver prior to filming the original ALIEN, unseen deleted scenes, thousands of still photographs from the Fox archives, the previously unseen original cut of "Wreckage and Rage: The Making of ALIEN3," and much, much more.

Hi Canfield, check www.digitalbits.com for ordering details. Apparently this item will not be sold through the usual online outelts (like Amazon) but can only be ordered straight from FOX.

It will cost 149 USD, has lights on the inside and is limited to 5000 pieces.
The content on the discs will make you drool (and not acid either) but thankfully that can also be found on the un-limited release.

James Cameron has openly supported the "Aliens" HD-transfer for this edition which is saying something as:
A: James is known as a perfectionist freak
B: "Aliens" had the most troublesome source materials to convert to HD.

So it's good news all the way!
Well, except for the fact that the special edition is so damn limited, and unavailable in Europe. Grrrrr....

user-pic

I want this SOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad but I cannot justify $150 on it.

user-pic

Looks like I'm going to have to give up my left testicles for this box set..

user-pic

I guess you will be okay if you have left "testicles" in the plural, just how many do you have anyway?!

user-pic

Hahahah like a sack of marbles I have...

user-pic

Good to hear re: Cameron approving the ALIENS transfer. I've been rather concerned that Fox might make a mess of that tricky source material.

Are the Blu-ray releases highlighted on Twitch chosen at random, though? Has there been any mention of IP MAN's US release two days ago? I'd also have thought the recent R1 DVD release from Discotek of Ringo Lam's BURNING PARADISE would be on the Twitch radar - as far as I know, this film hasn't seen any legitimate release in North America since Tai Seng's VHS and LaserDisc in the mid-1990s. Even though it's "only" a DVD, judging from the screenshots that are floating around, this new disc is almost certainly the best BURNING PARADISE has looked since the days of 35mm prints being shown in Chinatown movie theaters. I just wish the DVD/Blu-rays being highlighted here had more to do with the films Twitch tends to get behind when they're in their limited theatrical releases in 4 North American cities. It's good to know when something like A TOWN CALLED PANIC is making the limited release rounds - but it's better to know when it's on DVD/Blu-ray, where exponentially more people might get a chance to enjoy it.

At the moment we don't have a centralized view on upcoming DVDs and BluRays. We used to have someone who kept a monthly release agenda but when he left Twitch it created a vacuum. I offered to fill it but after several failed restarts (life can intervene in very inconvenient ways) it's still somewhere on my to-do list.

In the meantime we all post whatever catches our eye, things we ourselves feel enthusiastic about.

user-pic

I'd love, love, love to have someone around to keep an eye on the release charts and get that side of things organized again. Love it. LOVE it. It's just a matter of someone being willing / able to stand up and fill the void ...

user-pic

What the site needs is a section for it. I think that one of the reasons the old release calendar was somewhat ineffective was that it was posted very sporadically. If it were a fixed page where someone could add and delete titles and there was a set link to in on the front page it would be much more accessible. I might even take a stab at something like that. The old release calendar was filled with old stuff and there were comments going back YEARS on the page that had lost relevance. I say make a fixed upcoming releases page, no comments, that one could plug titles into and take titles out of without having to repost it as news periodically.

user-pic

The mechanics of setting it up that way are really pretty simple and I totally agree that'd be the way to do it. If you're willing to take the lead on tracking and posting - I'd try to recruit a few more hands to help out - then I'd be totally happy to set it up.

user-pic

I'm in the process of moving at the moment, but in a couple of weeks I'd be happy to try this out.
