After a global festival tour that saw it run through Cannes and Toronto, iconic Hong Kong director Johnnie To's Vengeance arrives on US shores next week. The film will launch Wednesday on the IFC Midnight VOD platform in advance of a limited theatrical rollout in August and we've got your first look at the brand new US trailer for the film. And for those curious, yes, this trailer is significantly different than the earlier international versions.

A truly international production, Vengeance takes a cast of Johnnie To's Hong Kong regulars - Anthony Wong among them - and moves them to Macau where they join forces with French star Johnny Hallyday, who plays a former hitman turned chef drawn back into violence when his daughter and grand children are gunned down. Stylish carnage ensues.

We've run plenty of coverage on this one in the past, check the links below.

Great movie - bad trailer.

i love this film. not sure why people hated it. the main lead did a great job and the plot was pretty cool. kinda melodramatic but thats' To's style. I like how To manages to augment his style with each film. For this one it feels like cigar smoke - wafting gently but musty and macho and cool. thats how these films should be. Singlehandedly he is progressing HK asian gangster movies. Long Live JT.

"Great movie - bad trailer."

I feel the opposite. Not that I think that Vengeance is a 'bad' movie, per se, I just prefer Exiled, which is a masterpiece IMO. All the trailers make the film look far better than it actually is.

But dear lord, I love me some dastardly Simon Yam antics.
