You know Kevin McKidd. You first saw him in Trainspotting. He looked great in a skirt in Rome. He makes the ladies cry on Grey's Anatomy. But he'd like to make the men cry when he kicks them in the pills.
Pardon?
Well, put it this way. McKidd has a hankering to be an action star - or at least do something a little outside the world of the prime time soap opera - and has been training himself up to do just that. The trainer in question, or so I'm told, is Undisputed 3 fight choreographer Larnell Stovall. And what follows is a fight reel that turned up in my mailbox today shot by the two of them after about three weeks of training together. No money, no polish, not really intended for public eyes, just some guys messing around to see whether the training has paid off.
And I don't know about you but I rather like the look of McKidd in this. The fighting is a little bit raw but he's got the sort of intensity to him that really sells it. Plus the man's actually a very, very good actor. All of which leads me to say this:
"Hey, Hollywood! Remember Liam Neeson in Taken? Looking for a guy who could carry a similar sort of action / drama hybrid? This is your guy."

Yes. Yes. Yes.
I would say that training has certainly paid off - excellent clip. I especially loved those knife moves at the end - I wouldn't be surprised to see Larnell weave that in to some future movie.
Dog Soldiers.Journeyman.
I also thoroughly enjoyed him in Dog Soldiers.
The action looks decent and he definitely has a presence. Would be interesting to see more what his capabilities. I get the feeling that his kicks are not completely convincing, but it is hard to tell given the fact cuts. Perhaps that is the point?
Either way, he is an under appreciated actor for sure.
*of his capabilites
That made my morning. Particularly the multiple stab bit with the knife. Excellent Stuff.
Oh my GOODNESS! YES! YES! I have like this guy since Dog Soldiers. He was outstanding in Rome (HBO u suck for not continuing it) He is such a good actor. He can do an action movie. I like the fact that he is a diverse actor, but please, please do some action movies. You have got potential and got the look. Go for it!
This looks so great! I do get the feel he is holding back on his moves somewhat but this guy has a great range i think.
I hope he gets the chance to do this. Maybe in Banruka or Catwalk?
Kevin played the villain in a UK martial arts action film called The Purifiers. It co-starred Gordon Alexander (who also choreographed the action) and LOST's Dominic Monaghan. The film was made just as Monaghan had completed his Lord of the Rings stint. This reel looks really good though...Stovall did a great job!
Matt Murdock/ Daredevil?
