Another film having its world premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival later this month is Blame, the debut feature of writer/director Michael Henry -- and based on this compelling trailer it's now at the top of my must-see list!
Here's the lowdown...
Seeking justice and revenge, five friends violently attack a man in his remote country house. Their plan: the perfect murder. Confident that their victim's death by his own hand will not be questioned, they overdose him on sleeping pills, but it all goes horribly wrong when their attempt fails and their victim fights for his life.In the aftermath, questions are raised about the true nature of the events leading up to the botched attack. As lies and secrets are revealed, the dynamic of the once-tight group shifts as the friends begin to question each other's motives. As they move closer to the truth, the weight of their quest for justice drives them to a place of no return.
Blame stars Sophie Lowe (Beautiful Kate), Kestie Morassi (Wolf Creek), Damian de Montemas (Somersault), Simon Stone (Jindabyne, Balibo), Mark Leonard Winter (Van Diemen's Land) and Ashley Zukerman (The Pacific).

Wake me up when someone makes movie adaptation of Tsutomu Nihei's "BLAME!" manga. But that undertaking would be very very costly.
Enjoying my favourite event of the year in Melbourne - MIFF and as part of that went to the premier of Blame.
Well....this is a remarkably polished piece of work from what are essentially (no disrespect here) a bunch of first timers.
It's wonderfully engaging visually, and yes film is a visual medium and that may sound like an obvious thing to say about a film but you just want to look at this beautifully shot piece, there's a desire from the opening shots to take it all in - the set/location and actors.
The cinematographer and director need to be singled out for particularly enthusiastic praise, you cant just take a fantastic location and a wonderful cast, point a camera at them and make something look this good.
The cast are incredibly strong across the board and the individual performances are all stand out, there's some serious talent on display here and and it just seems a natural progression that some of this young cast have stellar careers ahead of them.
Well above average film that instils great enthusiasm and hope for the future of the Australian film making industry.
MIFF premiere of Blame - one of the best films I have seen this year. From start to finish it had me on the edge of my seat, with periods of "catch your breath" light relief thrown in, and then back for more! An amazing twisted tale, kept you guessing which is so refreshing! The cinematography was stunning and so rare for a one location film to keep your interest the whole way through. The sound was brilliant - love that WA bush sound....
It's a must see in my book!
