When it comes to Hong Kong action cinema, nobody does it better than Dante Lam these days. Currently riding a ridiculous hot streak that has taken him from Beast Stalker to Fire of Conscience, Lam will soon be hitting Hong Kong screens again with Stool Pigeon - a film that reunites his Beast Stalker cast - and it would appear that the streak is, if anything, only heating up.

Senior Inspector Don Lee relies heavily on the information provided by stool pigeons in his job.

Barbarian is a painstakingly meticulous armed robber. Don needs an informant to infiltrate his gang. He recruits street-racer Guy. Guy provides information on Barbarian's next job, but Don is unable to effectively act on them until the final moment. Since Barbarian has not left any evidence, Don is pressured to convince Guy to become a witness for the prosecution.

Don promises to provide Guy with a new identity in another country, but the departure is beset by accidents and Guy only barely makes it to safety.

Haunted by his ruined relationships with his ex-wife and former stool pigeons, Don no longer wants to be part of a world that is one betrayal after another.
The sales reel for this turned up online several months back but now the first proper trailer has been released and it is looking tasty indeed. Nic Tse and Nick Cheung both look fantastic and it would appear that Lam is neatly balancing the dramatic and action elements. Yes, please.

Been disappointed by Lam lately. The Beast Stalker was Lam at top form (since Beast Cops) but things took a bad turn with The Sniper. Fire of Conscience, while decent, doesn't hold up that well as a whole. I hope he straights things up with this one.

As far as Hong Kong cinema goes, it's still Donnie Yen and Johnnie To for me.

Sniper was made well before Beast Stalker but had the release delayed by the Edison Chen sex scandal.

Not to mention it was recut to hell to reduce Chen's role.

I'm trying not to expect too much.
Trailer looks as usual awesome.
