Shiny new poster for THE WAITING CITY

Joel Edgerton's career seems to be going gangbusters now. He's currently being seen in Australian cinemas in the blistering crime drama Animal Kingdom, and has also recently filmed Warrior (opposite Tom Hardy) and The Thing prequel, in the lead role.

Just to prove he doesn't only play tough bastards, here's the sparkling new poster for his romantic drama The Waiting City, directed by Clare McCarthy and shot in India.

Here is the film's synopsis, from the website of the Sydney Film Festival, where The Waiting City has reportedly screened to fairly unanimous critical approval:

Fiona (Radha Mitchell) and Ben (Joel Edgerton) arrive in India expecting to end the long wait for their adopted child Lakshmi only to encounter bureaucratic hitches that further delay the much anticipated union. The couple react differently to the frustrating circumstances, Fiona immersing herself in work, Ben giving way to the rhythms of the city and the easy charm of an old friend (Isabel Lucas).

Captivating in its layered depiction of the complications the couple face, the protracted sense of time and the mesmerising sensuality of Kolkata, this is a film that understands and deeply respects the cycles of life, love, death and renewal.

I've also re-posted the trailer below, which gives a better idea of the film.
