In news that should surprise precisely nobody, Peter Jackson is now officially in talks to take over the directing job on the two Hobbit films now that Guillermo Del Toro has left that particular building.
It's not a done deal by any means - the same issues that Del Toro had with extended delays and uncertainty thanks to MGM's financial collapse are also issues for Jackson - but Jackson has been the obvious solution to this from the day the whole Del Toro situation blew up.

i wouldn't bother, no black people in his movies.
Xino is probably laughing his ass off at your response, Todd. Man, in a perfect world Cuaron would have stepped in. With Jackson I worry about dwarf tossing and dinosaur stampedes and the like. Not that he didn't get most of Middle Earth right, but still.
I wonder if I'll ever be interested in another Peter Jackson movie ever...
Jackson owns Middle Earth. He's the only logical choice for The Hobbit.
