As expected the sales promo for Joe Dante's The Hole that appeared on YouTube a little while back was quickly pulled down due to copyright violations but no fear: Though the film has not yet been picked up for US distribution, it is slated for an Italian release and that means a perfectly legal Italian trailer has arrived that can be viewed with impunity.
The down side here is that the trailer is dubbed in Italian. The up side? This is almost entirely different footage than what appeared in the US trailer and this particular trailer focuses heavily on the horror aspects of the latest from the director of Gremlins. So if you want a taste of what comes climbing up out of Dante's Hole [insert dirty joke here] then here's your chance.

This looks and feels like a Dante film and that has me very excited (minus the clown bits... eek!). That this doesn't have US distribution is criminal.

Glad this is getting a release finally. At least it means we'll be able to get hold of it in some form.
I saw the film last year at the Venice Film Fest. Was quite disappointed. Well, at least I got to take a photo with Ang Lee after the screening, yes!
I'll have to wait for a DVD, maybe this year, probably next year... Sad...
The film does, however, have distribution in the UK, and is slated for a late-August release. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

The taste of what crawls out of Dante's dirty hole could well be the highlight of this. The poster looks like a recruitment ad for young upstanding aryan citizens. Poor Dante. Ever since Gremlins he's lost his way IMO, unless that was down to Spielberg, in which case, this guy just got lucky.
