by Al Young, May 19, 2010 2:31 AM

Black Sun Entertainment has release a proof-of-concept to Azureus Rising and the studio hopes to expand it into a feature film trilogy.  The sci-fi short is directed by David Weinstein, along with a core team of about five people working on the production in a span of more then two months.  While there isn't much on narrative, it delivers on the action and visual aspect.
Azureus is the story of a young man who after escaping death and enduring a life changing journey - matures into a heroic freedom fighter. Azureus Rising is an epic tale of self discovery, obligation and love against all odds.
You'll find the five-minute short embedded below.

It is like a clip from full lenght feature film. And what a spirit that little raiden-like guy have. "Give as the money and we will make you a great animation movie" - that is the message. I would watch a feature film with this little guy (with hopes that behind the mask is not a sweet childish face though)

That was great. Ditto on the no anime face also. I could watch him jump around destroying crap for a few hours.

The animation quality is good but if they want to interest someone in putting money into a film then they need at least some story in it. As it is, it's some decent quality animation that hits a lot of familiar action notes. I recognize the effort but it doesn't say 'feature film' to me. When you are competing against video games that have better animation (and frankly tighter direction) you need to use that talent and bind it to something not so familiar or at least something with a voice. Right now, it is a tech demo and a demonstration of the team's talents.

For me, big part of the story in movies, is charismatic lead character. And this litle guy has it. And again, good animation is not only amount of the pixels on screen, it is also an ability to put life in the characters. Those small bits and pieces wich makes them feel more "real". They have archieved this here too. Anyway, hope to see another projects from this group.
