With Spanish first-person perspective zombie picture [REC] and [REC]2 proving to be enormous worldwide hits - they've already spawned the English language remake Quarantine - speculation has been running rampant for quite some time that there would soon be a third picture in the series. Very well founded speculation, really, since producers Filmax were sporting some new [REC] artwork in their offices at the European Film Market. And why not, really? The films are a load of fun and the mythology behind the pictures is showing no signs whatsoever of being tapped out.
Well, apparently Filmax are thinking you can never have too much of a good thing. And so they have just announced that they are planning not one, but TWO [REC] sequels with the original directorial duo of Paco Plaza and Jaume Balaguero splitting up to direct one apiece. What impact this will have on Balaguero's Flatmate - announced but not yet in production - isn't yet clear.

The director split is actually a nice idea that might give the series some new energy without getting a bunch of new people involved. Good stuff.
Very smart idea splitting the directors. I agree with Onderhond that it will keep the series fresh, but maintain the feel of the original two. This will be sweet.
