College student Kei Kurono (Kazunari Ninomiya) witnesses his childhood friend Masaru Kato (Kenichi Matsuyama) attempting to help a drunk who has fallen onto the subway train tracks and spontaneously jumps in to help him. However, both are run down by the oncoming train...Apart from the two main leads, Kazunari Ninomiya and Kenichi Matsuyama, the other cast members consist of Kanata Hongo as Joichiro Nishi, Yuriko Yoshitaka as Tae Kojima and Natsuna Watanabe as Kei Kishimoto. Warner Bros Japan plans to theatrically release the first installment in January 2011 and the second in spring 2011. You'll find the video footage embedded below.
In the next instant, they are transported to a strange apartment with others who should also be dead. In the center of the living room is an enigmatic black orb known as 'GANTZ'.
GANTZ enlists each of them on a mission to hunt down and exterminate 'aliens', providing them with fighting suits and weapons.

the movie actually looks good and doesn't look like it'll disappoint!
I watched some of the anime series, really funny but extremely childish.
Let's just hope this will live up to the anime and won't retain the stupid childish acts.
Looks fine for something that's not even finished yet. The producer updated GANTZ official site saying non of the CG is done yet and the ones that were shown are raws. They are very pleased with positive feedbacks from attendees and buyers at Cannes Film Market and promised more striking visuals in the end product. For now, it's already confirmed they'll be screenings of GANTZ movies in Germany, France, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. I'm usually weary about remakes and adaptations because I don't like the idea of tampering with the source material but... since GANTZ' ending was crap [spoiler lol], I'm actually interested in seeing how this goes. A second chance with what started out as a very cool story.
Looks awesome! Just wish Yoshitaka Yuriko were not in this flick.
I felt the manga (yes, the manga, not the anime) has a very interesting premise, but the execution is so-so. The manga is mostly just a series of violent battles against the aliens. Good for a while, but nothing worthwile remembering. The film could be a good chance of actually expanding both the story and characters. We'll see.
This actually looks good. They're covering the guys in black suits (don't want to spoil it who they are) already? That happens pretty late in the manga.
Those expecting more existentialism out of the film will probably be disappointed. As a medium, film is probably even more commercial and spectacle-oriented than graphic literature. Expect good visuals though.
Looks interesting and I have had no interest in Japanese cinema at all recently, due to amount of cheap looking shit that they release.
