For almost two years, Mikael Hafstrom's espionage thriller Shanghai, starring an international cast of John Cusack, Chow Yun-Fat, Gong Li and Ken Watanabe, has been left sitting on the shelve and collecting dust. Fortunately to those in China, it will finally see the light of day over there first and to promote this occasion, a trailer and a poster has been release to the Chinese media. Here's the official synopsis:
Nothing is what it seems in this Casablanca-style international thriller set in the ancient Chinese city a week before the attack on Pearl Harbor. U.S. Secret Agent Paul Soames (John Cusack) has just arrived to investigate the murder of his best friend, only to become quickly immersed in a web of conspiracy and lies that beset the city. Shadowed by a Japanese intelligence officer Tanaka (Ken Watanabe), Soames' investigation quickly centers on a charismatic local gangster, Anthony Lanting (Chow Yun-Fat) - and Lanting's beautiful wife, Anna (Gong Li). Before long, Soames and Anna are involved in an affair that will put everything they have at stake. As national loyalties are traded fast-and-loose for those of the heart, Soames and Anna must race to solve the mystery and make it out of occupied China before the city's collapse.Huayi Brothers will release the film in China on June 17th. The US release date is tentatively scheduled for September. You'll find the trailer embedded below.

Apart from showing the whole film in the trailer? Chow. Yun. Fat. Watching him grab a gun again gives the ol' tingles.
Damn, that looks like a fine film.
I'm so glad to see something with good actors and ambition, without CG animated dragons or massive battle scenes. Looks like it could be a very solid script, I would love to read it. Does anyone have an idea where it could be found... please please please!?
and Chow Yun Fat with a gun gives me a big hard boner.
Well, i'm interested, hopefully is not a story about americans fixing international affairs as is the usual with these settings. Gong Li just couldn't look more stunning, and Chow Yun Fat kicking ass? I have to say i'm in.
David Morse too!
STOKED!
hey man!
why did you lie!? you said LI
meaning Jet Li:)
Fat sounds sick in this movie:)
looks descent:/
I sure would love to GONG her LI, hahahhahahaha!!!!!
That looks stunning.
was waiting for jack black to whip his fat ass in circles to 'walking on sunshine' but then realised this was the wrong movie. yes, the film looks erm. dignified. tits. emoting. and john cusack looking angsty. woooo. watch out.
Hey, someone is clearly not paying attention. The last name of the actor is Chow, his personal name is Yun-Fat. Please correct this error. As for the people who created the poster, Chow's name should be in the bigger print. Otherwise it would be the equivalent to Cusack JOHN, if you get my drift.
