Word came out last November that there would be a new Chushingura film, Saigo no Chushingura [The Last Chushingura] directed by Shigemichi Sugita. This is the first retelling of the Japanese 'national legend' since Kon Ichikawa's 47 Ronin back in 1994. The first pics started to surface back in February actually and with some current ones surfacing we have a quartet of images in a new gallery. Left, obviously, is Koji Yakusho. After the break you will also find Koichi Sato and I believe that is Nanami Sakuraba in the second image. She plays Kane, the secret daughter of Yakusho's Seo Magojaemon.

More specifically, it's the first theatrical retelling of the national legend since 1994. TV drama versions surfaced in both 2001 (with Takuya Kimura in one of the central parts) and 2007.
aww Yakushou Koji.
Though I admit that the last movie I saw with him as the main character was Retribution, which I think ended up being terrible, I definitvely can´t forget all those great ones such as Imamura´s Unagi or Warm water under the bridge, Aoyama´s Eureka or even Kamikaze taxi.
Is this one a movie or a dorama?
Those pics look pretty cool.
