Any fans out there of Billy Wilder's wonderfully cynical Ace In the Hole? Well, watch in amazement as first time film-director Aaron Schneider wonderfully subverts that film into something both retro and modern. I caught this one at TIFF and it was in the top tier of crowd-pleasing standout films. Bill Murray gives a vintage performance that ignores the Coppola/Jarmusch/Anderson recent cool-chic and goes more for the range of Ghost Busters or Quick Change. And Robert Duvall proves once again why he is one the best living American actors - here is an actor that is always full of surprises. And Sissy Spacek is wonderfully warm.It may be a bit out of the circle of wagons of regular Twitch fare, but do yourself a favour and seek this out when it drops in the cinema later on this year.
