Producer Nicolas Chartier may not have been allowed to attend - naughty boy got slapped for breaking campaigning rules - but he's got a statue anyway.
The Hurt Locker takes six of the categories they were nominated in and while it's not my favorite film of the year I do think it's the best of the nominees and has been criminally underseen. With any luck this'll give it another life with audiences because it absolutely deserves it.

my favorite american movie gets its rightfully deserved oscars. avatar looses big time. COULD THERE BE JUSTICE ?
Justice? No, just a difference in taste.
The only film truly deserving of an oscar for best picture is Where The Wild Things Are.. Can't believe not 1 single nod for costume, visual f/x and the freaking music???
I think the Hurt Locker winning is brilliant!
It is an outstanding indie film and deserves the praise.
The whole purpose of an Oscar win is for either a bigger paycheck or a bigger budget on your next film.
Avatar didn't need an Oscar for best picture, its box office take has guaranteed Cameron any budget he asks for on his next film and he knows it. Thus, rooting for his ex-wife to win is an easy thing for him.
Pretty basic, IMO.
The best picture won.
