Will this really, as the title promises, be the final foray for the iconic blind swordsman Zatoichi? I sincerely hope not because this just isn't how I want to see the name die.
I have nothing in general against actor / musician Shingo Katori but he is just far too young and far too pretty to play the irascible rogue. Through in that they've given the character a wife (!) and while this might be a reasonable facsimile, Zatoichi it aint.
That's not to say it looks horrible, though. The just-released trailer doesn't have me leaping out of my seat with excitement but it doesn't turn me off the film entirely, either, which is saying something considering how a big a mis-step I consider the casting. Take a look below!

looks alright. just consider it like elseworlds zatoichi. haha
The actor is too young indeed, but otherwise it looks nice.
The japanese producers are ruining the whole movie industry with casting idorus.
The movie looks indeed very good and has great actors in supporting roles, but man, the lead is just too weak to carry the movie.

Well even Zatoichi was young once. I'll see this, I just love the whole Zatoichi mythos.
I can always go back and revisit my DVD collection if the movie isnt to my liking.
I am a big fan of shingo katori, he is a fantastic actor and great for role of Zatoichi, i can't wait to see this film.
I'm a big fan of Shingo as well and I've seen him serious roles before. I think he's gonna be great in this. Much better than the last one in my opinion. From what I've read about this movie, the only complaint is that Shingo is too smooth....or like you state, too pretty. I don't think that should matter if his acting and skills are up to par.
