Ah, yes, the music on the new UK trailer for Gareth Evans' Merantau - releasing on those shores as Merantau Warrior - makes me giggle. Because it is Just So EXCITING!  Heh.  But as far as the actual footage goes, this is a much leaner, more fight oriented look at the film than what the Indonesian trailer offered so dive right in below.

Has anyone seen this? Just wondering how it measures up.

I'm biased as hell, having been involved creating the international version, but I think it's really damn good. Won an Audience Award at Fantastic Fest, three reviews linked up above.

I watched the international version. It's a very good film.

I was worried about how they would handle the Silat fight scenes, but I was pleasantly surprised they managed to retain the art's distinctive flavour while making the fights absolutely kick-ass.

Only thing I disliked about it is the lead female character. Useless and whiny. Maybe I should write a review?

Looks Tony Jaaish, but looks good. E & SE Asian cinema is def on the rise; the stunt work and fight scenes just look so much better than what Hollywood can offer. Just hope the stunt teams get well paid; the injury rate must be high.
