Hey Belgium! Get Out To OFFSCREEN!

No, it's not a reference to the film by Christoffer Boe, though that would probably find an appreciative home here.  On now and continuing through the next couple weeks is the Offscreen Festival in Brussels and, honestly, it'd be hard to imagine a festival more tailored to Twitch's tastes.

Not a straight up genre festival, Offscreen caters to what they term 'non-conformist' films, which means next to screenings of Air Doll, White Lightnin', Amer and other recent offerings you get lengthy retrospectives dedicated to the likes of Jess Franco, the spaghetti western and Japanese pinky violence.

Any chance you'd take this show on the road, boys?

Hey Great ! I'm already there !
Saw 'Air Doll' on saturday and loved it ... hard to miss since i'm a big fan of both director Kore-eda and actrice Bae Du-Na ! But still something really special and food for though.
Off Screen Filmfestival is mainly organised by the Brussels art-house Cinema Nova, but here they also work together with the also very great Brussels filmmuseum Cinematek ( I discovered Sogo Ishii's "Crazy Family" there last week ... wow ! film of the year (1984).
Cinema Nova is really cool and they program hard to find and unusual films all year round, mostly around a certain theme ... Off Screen filmfestival is like only top of the iceberg ...
In previous editions they had fantastic old-school 3D movies like "The house of Wax" and "Revenge of the Shogun Women". And Jack Hill presented a complete retrospective of his movies there ... and they are clearly also big fans of Japanese movies :-)
