Back in January,
we were left utterly speechless from the trailer to Wong Jing's sci-fi madness Future X-Cops. A set of posters and another trailer has just arrived with some extra footage and English subtitles included. The CG effects may have been polished up a bit since the last video but hot damn, its still cheesy as hell.
A cop goes back in time to the present to protect a scientist who holds the key to mankind's future. Its set for theatrical release in China on March 30th. You'll find the extended trailer and a gallery of posters below.
In the future, scientist DR MASTERSON averts an energy crisis that threatens the existence of mankind by developing a solar substitute. In doing so he unleashes the wrath of a ruthless oil cartel who dispatch a team of half human, half machine hit men to assassinate him. Policeman ANDY (Andy Lau) is assigned to protect Dr. Masterson and repels the assassination attempt, but his wife MILLIE (BingBing Fan) and cyborg captain KALON's (Louis Fan) younger brother are killed during the battle. Andy and Kalon both vow revenge.
Still determined to regain control of the world's energy, the cartel send Kalon and his cyborgs back in time to the present to kill Dr. Masterson as a teenager. Now with the fate of the future in his hands, Andy must follow the assassins back in time to protect the future savior of planet earth. But the only way he stands a chance against the super powered cyborgs is to relinquish his humanity and become one of them.

this is glorious.
This looks ridiculously ambitious for a Wong Jing film. The special effects might not be state-of-the-art but when you've got this much sheer insanity going on, only a soulless bastard could get hung up on the madness not being sufficiently polished.
DISCLAIMER: I liked SAVIOUR OF THE SOUL 2.
What I don't understand is why Andy Lau agreed to star in this movie... He is so much better than that... Even the script should have told him that the final product would look garbage...
Even Andy Lau seems to have a price. That or maybe he owes somebody a favor. A BIG favor.
