It's one of the best things Woody Harrelson has done in many years, it's hitting screens in Canada Friday and it's bringing a new trailer with it. Hurray for superhero comedy Defendor!
It's one of the best things Woody Harrelson has done in many years, it's hitting screens in Canada Friday and it's bringing a new trailer with it. Hurray for superhero comedy Defendor!
Check the new trailer below!Bruised and beaten, arm in a sling, neck in a brace, Arthur Poppington (Woody Harrelson) sits in front of court-appointed psychologist Ellen Park (Sandra Oh). After making her swear to secrecy, Poppington begins to tell the story of his secret life as "Defendor" - yes, that's an "OR" - spelling is not one of his super powers. By day, Poppington directs traffic around road construction sites, but at night he dons a pair of black tights, a black jersey with a crude "D" duct-taped to his chest, and trawls the streets as his alter ago. As Defendor, Poppington engages in what he believes is a super heroic fight against crime in an attempt to fulfill his unrealized dream of capturing his archrival, Captain Industry - a gun trafficking crime lord who Poppington mistakenly believes is responsible for the death of his mother.
Defendor's problems with the law begin with his intervention in a trick gone bad. When coming to the aid of Katerina Debrofkowitz (Kat Dennings), an underage prostitute, Defendor tangles with her pimp, Chuck Dooney (Elias Koteas) - a crooked undercover cop. By doing so, Defendor bumbles his way into a criminal underworld, and the stage is set for a showdown with Captain Industry

There's no trailer there buddy.

Looks good. Looks like Harrelson is on a roll with another solid performance.
I saw this last night Todd and although I really wanted to like it better it needs either a re-edit, more laughs or a tighter story. There's nothing wrong with the cast and if you like Woody Harrelson you'll want to give it a watch. He's sympathetic, has good comedy chops obviously and Defendor himself is fun to watch. Kat Demmings I'll watch doing anything and she's good enough as the um cliched whore with the heart of gold. But you have to really squint hard to see a proper movie out of this. The main problem is the story never gets a proper rhythm and you can forget about the conflict. Elias Koteas I've always liked but the movie cannot decide how heavy to make the tone so characters like his villain are pulled between acting like loons and actually being credible. There's stuff about child abuse and other darker issues here but the criminals are all candy floss. When they DO start breaking out of the farce mode it just feels odd. There a couple big laughs in the movie but it never keeps it up. A shame since everyone involved seem very likable.
This movie was great.
Shame that it will be swallowed by the mammoth that Kick-Ass is becoming, even worse that it would probably be accused of being a cheap rip-off.
