Magnet Bringing Indonesian Fight Film MERANTAU To North America!

by Todd Brown, February 13, 2010 3:40 AM

It's been in the works for a while but now it's all nicely signed and sealed and delivered.  Magnet have picked up rights to Indonesian martial arts film Merantau and will be bringing the film - a great favorite in these parts - to North America.  Deals have also been done for our Euro brethren in the UK, Germany, France and a few other territories.  I had a hand in getting this deal done and one thing not mentioned in the official release is that while Magnet is handling DVD and VOD release, a limited theatrical is still being explored as well via other means and hopefully there will be something to announce there shortly.

"Deals have also been done for our Euro brethren in the UK,"

good, I thought it was only for US:/

That's great news! It's not even on merantau's official website yet, I think. Is Holland included?

I am intrigued by your "other means" remark, as Magnolia's the only company I could think of who'd bother to release an Indonesian martial arts picture to American theaters in anything resembling a competent fashion.

There are other companies that back and support limited releases. We're talking to one now ...

That's great news. I've been looking forward to this since hearing that the director of the great Footsteps followed it up with an Indonesian martial arts film. Can't wait to see it however it's released.

Let's hope they keep the Bahasa Soundtrack as an option.

Original soundtrack will definitely be there. I'm reasonably certain it'll be the ONLY soundtrack on there, in fact. And, assuming it'll all fit, we're going to try and include both cuts of the film as well ...

So will this be the last un-named film in the Six Shooter Film Series?

Nope. Not sure what's holding that spot but it's not Merantau.
