This, friends, is a collision of talent to be excited about: Oldboy himself, Choi Min-Sik, starring with A Bittersweet Life's Lee Byung-Heon - sadly still best known on these shores from his role in GI Joe - in a new thriller from A Tale Of Two Sisters, A Bittersweet Life and The Good, The Bad And The Weird director Kim Ji-Woon.

The original Korean title translates as Subtropical Night but the film has since been rechristened as I Saw The Devil, an appropriate choice as it stars Choi as a sadistic serial killer and Lee as a driven lawman who turns every bit as nasty while hunting Choi down after he kills Lee's fiance.

With a late summer release planned the first proper stills of Lee and Choi have just been released. Check them below.

I know ... it's come together shockingly fast for a Kim Ji-Woon film, too ... the new one from the guys who made The Chaser is shooting now for a summer release, too ... Korea on the rebound!

Finally Choi's back on the scene! This has shot to the top end of my anticipated releases just based on the talent involved. Phew.

Awesome!

Kim Ji-Woon is a master film-maker. He's not made a movie yet that I didn't absolutely love. And with these awesome actors involved this has rocketed straight up near the top of list of most anticipated movies.

And although I really feel that I could happily go the rest of my life without seeing another serial killer flick THE CHASER showed me that there still may be life in the old horse yet.

this is best god damn news all year. 2 of the best actors in asian cinema together. i remember getting excited about the rumour, now i am about to feint! haha. cannot wait.

hmmm, a late summer release gives this potential for Opening Night or Centerpiece slot at the New York Asian Film Festival?

Just speculatin'...

That would be fantastic but is very unlikely. A filmmaker of Kim's level will certainly be targeting one of the big five international festivals (Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto or Sundance) for the international premiere. Given the timing, probably a Venice / Toronto combo. I'd be shocked beyond words if it opened anywhere else.

This movie definitely revive my excitement about Kim's movie after The Good The Bad The Weird. Thank you for posting this.
What's the title of Na Hong-jin's upcoming movie? Sure can't wait to see that one as well.

Na's movie was originally titled The Yellow Sea but now they're just calling it Murderer. Probably makes sense from a marketing perspective but I liked the original title better ...

Choi is looking like Mickey Rourke these days. I can't help but be skeptical about the film, we all know how amazing the teaser for Confession of Pain was (compared to the finished film).

True enough but Kim Ji-Woon is a WORLDS better film maker than Andrew Lau. Kim's weakest film - in my opinion - is The Good, The Bad And The Weird and that's one DAMN impressive entry to have as the 'weak' spot on your resume ...

That's a fair comment, I was definitely caught up with how much of a solid production Infernal Affairs leading into seeing Confession of Pain. I couldn't count this film out though.
