Is this solid? I have no idea, but it's very, very plausible with the advance word on Predators coming back very strong and the widespread belief within Hollywood being that with Armored Antal took, at best, a C-script and delivered a B-movie. Here's what just came in:
Just heard Nimrod Antal is at the top of Sony's list to take over Spiderman. The story goes:
Sam Raimi met Nimrod on the Sony lot before his first US film (Vacancy) began production. They clicked and Sam took him under his wing, even signed his DGA card so Nimrod could get into the union, then after Vacancy hired Nimrod to direct Armored. Now Predators is getting great word of mouth around town, the Warners execs love it, Sam loved the 20 minutes of rough material he saw and now Sam and the Sony execs want Nimrod back at Sony to take over Spiderman.

So crazy it could be awesome. Many readers around here will recall his Hungarian Debut film, KONTROLL which is pretty dynamite stuff. Vacancy is underrated for what it is, and I never caught Armoured, but I do think that Antal has had a bumpy ride in his quest for big-budget hollywood filmmaking, and if he lands Spiderman that is a major coup for him.
This is the first I've heard of Antal's name attached to Spidey. I'd be more keen on this than the Marc Webb rumor flying. If Sony wanted that "gritty" Spider-Man film they keep describing, Antal could deliver. KONTROLL was indeed dynamite stuff, and Antal has not proven his potential with his follow ups, so perhaps...
Armored was OK, decent premise watered down by a weak script. Can't wait to see stuff from Predators if them Sony people are so hot and bothered with it.
Ehh, I read the title as "Nimrod Anal To Take Spider-Man"... 0_o
