HORROR MOVIE ANOREXIA: OR WHY Jennifer's Body needs a make-over (DVD).

This movie wasn't the complete travesty that people pretend it was but it is pretty darn bad and Diablo Codys dialogue is a big part of the problem. On the surface it sounds like a great idea for a horror movie. Take an over confident high school babe, get her good and demonized and turn her loose on the world of teenage cliques, adult lack of awareness armed with wit of the woman who gave us Juno. But what worked in Juno falls like a lead weight here. There isn't a moment of nuance in the entire piece. From J.K. Simmons ridiculous wig and outfit to Megan Foxs inability to unpack dialogue overstuffed with Codys already ham-fisted hipness. In fact there is an air of downright unpleasantness in the way that the film exploits the sexuality of its cast. The one bright spot here is Amanda Seyfried who manages to brighten up what could have been a sad second banana role. Extras on this DVD release include a commentary from Cody and director and a group of deleted scenes
