My condolences, Alex, not only are you done but you did it to yourself. Repo Chick trailer. Ouch. Did nobody involved in this at any point have the good sense to say, "You know, this might be a bad idea"?
This is so sad. I credit Alex Cox and his BBC Moviedrome screenings with introducing me to so much independent Cinema and playing a big part in cultivating my appreciation of the medium. It is exactly this knowledge - of how much film CAN be and what directors CAN accomplish on modest, or even miniscule, budgets - that makes we alternate between weeping & gagging when I watch this.
He's been lagging for years, no doubt, but if he were ever to make a comeback this would've been his chance. After seeing this I doubt anyone will ever give him another chance.
This looks dreadful yet unique at the same time.
Reactions so far mirror those we saw for the first trailer of "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans" and look what happened.
Just saying that the intention may be different from what we surmise. Maybe it's a "Rocky Horror" version of Repo-Man?
WooooooOwwww.....
Let's see....
Bad acting? Check.
Bad visuals? Check.
Bad costuming and scenery? Check.
Anybody want to make a bet that the story WON'T be bad, too?
I thought I'd heard that Cox had a deal in place to shoot several (like maybe eight!) sub-100k features, of which REPO CHICK was one. If what the trailer portends is any indication... maybe the producers should get out while they're ahead (or at least not too far behind). I love Cox's body of work as a whole - there are some misses IMO but he's followed a completely unique path. I'll give this a shot out of loyalty but man... not exactly whetting my whistle there.
Movie trailers aren't typically very long, but watching the trailer for Repo Chick felt like an eternity. I feel like I lived 1000 lifetimes in 135 seconds.
I'm sorry to say I didn't even finish the trailer... wait no I am not sorry. There is a little part of me that feels it is a unique idea, but then again it just feels like repackaging Repo Man. Maybe Cox can write another book? I was really digging his Spaghetti Western one, "10,000 Ways to Die."
The quality of the trailer makes me think it's made out of unfinished material. The sound is awful and the editing plain bad. It might be best to hold judgment until I see the finished film, but if a new and better trailer isn't released then that might be an indication of how bad this film will turn out to be.
Todd, You're right. Cox did end his own career. Twenty years ago when he made the a carpet bomb named Walker. I'm sure you liked how cool this article made you sound when you wrote it, but your cocky, empty snark is about two decades late.
The reaction to this trailer sounds like the reaction that everyone always has to Cox's films. They don't know what it is, what to do with it and are scared to like it. I'm willing to bet that this is going to be crazy fun and have a bite to it if you're paying attention.
It feels, from the trailer, like a sarcastic editorial on the current state of cinema. That doesn't make REPO CHICK watchable - but I don't think I can resist finding out for myself.
For part two of our Berlinale 2012 Preview (here's part one - the Competition Lineup), we'll be highlighting titles in the Forum and Panorama sections. What's the difference? According to the festival, the Forum section includes the most daring and risk-taking films of the program, while the Panorama section includes films specifically targeted at buyers (who are generally not...

For the second time in two years, I am frustrated and a bit sad to begin discovering the work of a great, oft-overlooked filmmaker upon reading news of their death. Such was the case last year with Jean Rollin, whose passing prompted me to dig into his filmography and in turn discover one of the most unique genre filmmakers...

Berlinale 2012 kicks off in three days, and with its vast, diverse international program, preparation is mandatory. So, between stockpiling warm clothes and memorizing how to say "I don't speak German" in German, I've been combing the program and singling out potential highlights in each festival category. I'll be sharing these over the next several days before I depart,...

*Some Spoilers, Fair Warning*Perhaps a goofy co-incidence that Facebook filed with the SEC to launch its $5 Billion (with a B) initial public offering in the same week as this viral/web advertised film hit cinema screens. The dollar value for the filing is itself equal parts news-catcher, market-hubris and ultimately an underscore on where society, in the here and now,...

Earlier this week, Chinese cinema exhibitor Beijing Bona Starlight Cineplex Management Co. Ltd. announced that it will start applying film classifications to films in the hope of providing better guidance to its patrons and improving box office performance. A subsidiary of film distribution giant Bona Film Group, the exhibitor currently only operates four cinemas in China, including two in Beijing,...

So do we play Taps or sing O'Danny Boy?
When I saw this yesterday, I was too depressed to post it. A shame, because REPO MAN has aged quite well....
Oh my. That....
Hmmm....
I.....
uhm.......
Yeah....
Aw fuck it.

If I'm hearing that sound now, it must only be because it's echoing the original sound of this from many, MANY years ago.
And I didn't think it would be possible, but indeed -- that trailer actually is even worse than I had heard.
I didn't think Cox's career was particularly thriving before this.
Walker is amazing though - I highly recommend.
He's been lagging for years, no doubt, but if he were ever to make a comeback this would've been his chance. After seeing this I doubt anyone will ever give him another chance.

Maybe it will become a cult classic the way "Attack of the killer tomatoes" and "Killer klowns from outer space" did. You know, So bad it's good.
