Israeli filmmaker, Ari Folman made a huge impact in 2008 with his meditative animated war doc WALTZ WITH BASHIR. A film that many feel was robbed at Oscar time.
About this time last year Folman announced he was going to adapt Sci-fi giant, Stanislaw Lem's THE FUTUROLOGICAL CONGRESS. Now through Screen Daily and Slashfilm, the first still from the now just titled THE CONGRESS has surfaced. It may not be much, but is certainly something to get this project back on the radar of fans of serious science fiction and animation... heck just cinema in general.
The original short story tells of a world where hallucinatory drugs have replaced reality. Looks like Folman is only taking what he needs from this and extending on it with his own take, most notably, having actress, Robin Wright play a version of herself who travels to this future... or at least it appears so.
Screen Daily reports that an unfinished cut of the film will screen at the animated film conference, Cartoon Movie in Lyon, France March 5-7.
Check out the full still below and head on over to Slashfilm for Russ Fischer's further musings and collected comments from Folman himself.

You just made my day ...
Never saw Waltz with Bashir, but hey, anyone doing more Lem is worth a look. Still waiting for a faithful adaptation of Solaris, the announcement of which would probably have me fainting on the spot, but this has still got to be one to keep an eye on.
