A Korean ZATOICHI From THE KING AND THE CLOWN Director Lee Jun-Ik?

Well, well.  Director Lee Jun-Ik had a massive critical and commercial hit with his sophomore film, 2005's historical drama The King And The Clown.  The film would shatter box office records while raking in critical awards and while Lee's work since has met with mixed results The King And The Clown was more than enough to assure the director of a continued position on the international stage.

And now he's returning to a period setting while adding a strong martial arts element to the mix.  Lee's latest is titled Gureumeul Beoseonan Dalcheoreom, which translates roughly as Like The Moon That Escaped The Cloud.  Cha Seung-Won stars as a revolutionary fighter but the drawing point for many will be Hwang Jun-Min, who plays a 'legendary blind swordsman'.

That's Hwang in the poster to the left.  Anything look familiar?  More than just his blindness, check out how his sword is concealed and the grip he uses to draw.  Both are exactly the same as a certain Japanese icon and if this isn't an authorized spin on the Zatoichi legend the influence is both clearly and strongly there.

Though there is no trailer yet a series of character images have been released.  Check them below.

This is all kinds of awesome. Any chance of this showing up at FANSTASIA this year?

It's an early summer release in Korea, so yeah ... quite possible.

Yes! More korean martial art movies..hope it will be gritty and bloody and not any broad comedy.
