Ever wonder how little independent productions go about creating big effects spectacle? Well, the creators of upcoming indie scifi-horror hybrid Growth are here to tell you.
A breakthrough in advanced parasitic research on Cuttyhunk Island gave scientists a jump on human evolution. Using genetically engineered parasites, they were able to increase the physical and mental strength and awareness of their test subjects. When the scientists were unable to control the subjects and the parasites, the island tragically lost three quarters of its population, leading to a massive cover-up.
Twenty years later the experiment threatens the island's population once again and the islanders must now fight to survive against both the parasites and each other!
We've been keeping an eye on this one as a way of scratching our B-movie itch and the men behind the scenes have been good enough to pass along a making of video detailing how to go about creating an effects driven picture on a tight budget.

Baoh... Anyone?
Nicely done featurette, it is more than a little groovy to see essentially the same techniques from the days of Evil Dead, or Braindead/ Dead-Alive, ie ladders, and other low tech camera conveyance solutions coupled with an imaging device like the Red and a solid post-production pipeline to get the most out of the benefits of digital video. Cool beans, now I just have to see the film and see if the script is any good.
Awesome Visuals + Weak Script = POINTLESS.
Very interesting featurette on making the film, especially the part about trying to give a big budget atmosphere with little money.
