Tomm Moore's Stellar SECRET OF KELLS Finds A US Home ...

... and they're treating it right.

Tomm Moore's Secret Of Kells - aka Brendan And The Secret of Kells - has become a great favorite in these parts over the past year as it continues to rack up awards all around the globe.  How much do we like it?  Enough that I quite happily put Moore alongside Michel Ocelot and Mamoru Hosoda as the leaders of the current wave of international animation.

And, though it took a while, now US audiences will have a chance to get a look at this fantastic film, thanks to the people at GKIDS.  The producers of the New York Childrens Film Festival, GKIDS have begun to venture into distribution recently - they handled Ocelot's Azur And Asmar - and are expanding their roster with Moore's film.  The plan includes a theatrical release in March of 2010 following a brief run in Burbank from December 4 - 10th to qualify the film for the Oscars.  And if this doesn't net a nomination then the voters are flat-out blind.

I hope it gets to Canada too. And I hope it gets that nomination. There's a high chance that it won't though. If only three movies get nominated then the spots are almost all taken. Up is a shoe-in and Ponyo has a good chance. Then there's The Princess and the Frog and all those ridiculous Dreamworks cartoons. It'll be an uphill battle to get this film nominated.

Oh yeah, and Fantastic Mr. Fox and 9. It's a rough year for animation (I guess that's a good thing).
