The BAD LIEUTENANT Is Coming

I'm not certain what the situation is in the rest of the world but here in Canada, at least, Friday is Bad Lieutenant day.  Yes, kids, it's the ultimate in counter-programming with Werner Herzog's bizarre and brilliant picture coming out head to head with the latest Twilight picture.  This is the first really watchable film Nick Cage has done since Adaptation, an absolutely over the top deconstruction of the American cop movie, and hugely entertaining.  It's also relying almost entirely on word of mouth to put butts in seats, which means it's going to disappear pretty quick without a lot of grass roots support.  So get out there and check it out while you've got the chance.

Having a hard time convincing myself to see this. I wasn't a fan of Bad Lieutenant to begin with, and Old Nick is more miss than hit, but the compelling argument would certainly be in Herzog's favor and his take on most things is in the least often compelling.

Don't let the title fool you, this actually has no connection to the Abel Ferrara film at all. And I'm right there with you on Cage ... I haven't seen him in anything I liked since Adaptation but he meshes perfectly with Herzog in this.

Your a good man Todd (and obviously very busy), thanks for heads up and your well voiced observations.

I wish this was playing somewhere near me. I like good Nic Cage, and this film seems just wacky enough to be enjoyable. I'm surprised at the critics' response so far on Rotten Tomatoes (almost unanimously positive).
