It took well over a decade for action legend Yuen Woo-Ping to return to the director's seat, and he certainly hasn't chosen the easiest of subjects to tackle, either. That is because the hero of his upcoming wuxia 蘇乞兒 (True Legend) is none other than Beggar Su (the Su Qi Er of the title), one of the most famous names in the martial arts canon. previously essayed by greats like Gordon Liu, Donnie Yen, Simon Yuen and Lau Kar-Leung. True Legend will star Vincent Zhao as the titular Su, a wealthy Qing dynasty patron who is falsely accused, ends up seeing his status and riches vanish into thin air, and eventually gets back on his feet through street cred and, well, ass-kicking, what else? Our future King of Beggars will have to share credits with a pretty interesting group of names, actually.
Gordon Liu and Michelle Yeoh need no introduction, but how about pop superstar Jay Chou in his first real fighting role, or budding MMA fighter Cung Le? How about one of mainland's finest talents, Zhou Xun, popular stars like Guo Xiaodong, and even one of the late David Carradine's final roles? Apparently, this film will use 3D cameras, but Yuen stressed that the action will be old-school. And the teaser sure suggests so.

Sounds and looks great. Thanks for the info, X!
Finally. That's a lot of fu. I like what I see.
Oh, damn ... I can totally see where and how they're going to make use of the 3D ...
Mmmmmmmm...this how I like to wake up in the morning. Excited about some old school kung fu. I love Vincent Zhao. He has always stuck to the tv dramas. Finally! I've been waiting for him to take over the big screen for years. Since "The Blade."
Ok, go you Yeun !!
Man, I just wish they'd stop casting Jay Chou and stop acting like the guy can act...
Otherwise, interesting trailer with interesting costume and make-up. Michelle Yeoh is always a plus.
Everything looks great...except Jay Chou. But with all that talent around him i think i can forgive that.
Was kinda negative on it when I read the article. I was thinking "Geez. yet another wu xia film....Yuen Woo Ping fights...bfd." Then I saw the trailer. Not bad! Yeah, dunno why Jay Chou keeps getting work, but I like the rest of the cast. Fighting seems to be more "realistic" i.e. minimal to no wires, which is always good. Definitely gonna watch it on DVD when it comes out.
A little digging on IMDB confirmed that Chiu Man-Cheuk is playing So Haak Yee, The King of Beggars and one of the 10 Tigers of Kwangtung. Fair enough. He can both act and fight. Decent choice.
However, Jay Chou is playing the part of 'The God of Martial Arts'.

Master Yuen can make anyone look good on screen, but this is really pushing it.
Jay Chou has a career because he attracts girls to the cinema. That's about it.
A series of character-based teasers for this have been playing at preview screenings of other EDKO releases over the last few weeks and I have repeatedly asked them for a copy of them - as yet to no avail. Suffice to say I am a little nervous at a rather unsettling amount of CGI in the trailers but the fighting does look rather accomplished, as one might expect from YWP. I will continue to bug them for a digital copy, or at least a link to the other teasers and get them up asap as and when...
I think its clear. Just pure action.
X....you forgot to mention Chow Yun Fat and Chow Sing Chi (Stephen Chow of Kung Fu Hustle). Both also played this character. Fat from his early days in TVB (Hong Kong's leading TV station) in the late 70s and Chow played the character in the early 90s.
I hope this is not like Jet Li's Fearless. That did not sit in well with me at all in terms of the story.
