I'm rather disappointed that I missed this while I was in Austin last week but I just couldn't get to either of the screenings. By most accounts the second film [REC]2 is a good one, picking up where the last one left of and turning the horror knob to 11. It would appear that lightening has struck twice for the franchise. So, it should come as no surprise that during a successful festival run and a tremendous opening weekend in Spain that the producers seem to be pushing ahead for a triple thrill.
There is now a site for [REC]3 though it is just a title card. Co-creators/co-directors Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza told Bloody Disgusting that they would NOT return to direct, but will be involved at some capacity. Now, the question remains. Can it be done a third time. We had the same questions about the second one and with enough creativity and preparation by most accounts they repeated the similar format, first person camera point of view, with slight changes. What's left? Closed Circuit Television? Word is, the ending of [REC]2 left it wide open for a sequel. Should they quit while they're ahead? Damn the consequences and do a third? Thoughts? Conundrums?

Loved the first, yet to see the second, but trust the early praise it's getting so far. Making a complete and great trilogy is tough. Looking back into cinema history will tell us that the third [REC] has huge odds against it from being at least as good as it's predecessors.
I saw rec2 at Austin and thought it was excellent. Really scary, like playing Doom for the first time back in the day. I await Rec3 with baited breath.
Saw REC2 at Tiff and it was fantastic! Would love to see a 3rd, but without the original directors at the helm I would be sceptical that it would be as good as the first 2.
When asked at the Tiff screening if they would do a 3rd they said "no", but they also said that they said the same thing about part 2 so they can't really be trusted. Hopefully they'll decide that it's best to finish off the series themselves.
