TIFF 09: A Clip From John Hillcoat's THE ROAD

by Todd Brown, September 4, 2009 3:01 PM

If you'll pardon the bad pun, it's been a long and winding road for John Hillcoat's latest to finally make it to the big screen. Hillcoat's adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's post-apocalyptic novel has been sitting on the shelf for a good while now despite the presence of Viggo Mortensen in the lead while the distributor has tried to figure out what the hell to do with it.

Answer:  Show it to people.  We want to see it.

With the film about to take a bow at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival, a new clip has just arrived.  Check it below!

I can't wait for this. Loved the novel and I think Hillcoat is the man for the job. You can't get much more grim than Civil Dead and this movie needs to be grim.

Quint over at AICN just posted a quite positive review of The Road from Telluride. Looks like the studio grew a pair of balls and left Hillcoat's vision alone after initially worrying that it was too dark.

Hopefully the film THE ROAD takes, "the road less travelled" (sic) as it were. It would seem this film's delay might forbode some foreshadowing of the critical posturing that might take place...down the road...
