Revolver launches production arm

Independent distributer Revolver has set up its own production arm - Gunslinger - to develop, produce and finance new feature films. The first will be British action thriller Shank, currently filming somewhere in the urban sprawl of south London.

Revolver has become a weapon of choice (excuse the pun) in recent years for anyone seeking edgy, independent and foreign pics that may otherwise have failed to see the somewhat grey light of day in the UK. Recent releases include Steven Sheil's kitchen sink horror Mum & Dad, immigrant drama Sin Nombre, Herzog's fabulous Encounters At The End Of The World and Danish noir Just Another Love Story.

Slated for a 2010 release, Shank is directed by first timer Mo Ali and stars a host of budding young actors - Adam Deacon (Kidulthood, Adulthood), urban musician Ashley 'Bashy' Thomas, Michael Socha (Summer, Soft), Kaya Scodelario ("Skins"), Jan Uddin (Boogie Woogie) and Jennie Jacques (Cherry Tree Lane)" amongst others. Pimp My Ride's (UK) Tim Westwood will also make an appearance, though what sort of recommendation that is, I'm not sure... Still, if the films they produce are as diverse in scope and genre as those they've distributed, Gunslinger will be one to keep a well trained eye on.
