Yesterday the Camera Japan Festival started in Rotterdam and today they revealed the surprise film which will be shown (only once!) this Sunday evening.
Guess what: it is Mamoru Oshii's "The Sky Crawlers".
At long last this will be in a Dutch cinema... Sniff, it's an emotional moment for me. And less then 24 hours after the only showing of "Ghost in the Shell 2.0" in the very same building.
So if you're in the neighborhood of Rotterdam this weekend, and happen to be an Oshii fan... what are you waiting for???
Good news, although I've already seen the movie. Don't really know what to make of it, but the aerial fights are breathtaking.
The CG is nothing short of stunning, however it appears that most of the budget was spent on it unfortunately.
The story was interesting but came across as rather flat and the 2D animation was not even remotely comparable to the CG. Last Exile has done the best job in that regard thus far.
