Lee Yoon-Gi's 티파니에서 아침을 (And Us) Hits Snag

by X, September 24, 2009 4:13 PM

You know your industry is in a sort of "ass backwards" period, if even someone like Lee Yoon-Gi, directing a film which stars Soo Ae and Ha Jung-Woo, and shooting what is only a mid-budgeted romcom, has to cope with financing problems. Sad as it may be, that is indeed the case for Lee's latest, 티파니에서 아침을 (And Us), which completely halted its shoot two weeks ago. Speculation earlier this morning started running wild, with some people even suggesting that the two leads didn't have enough star power - who, the guy who just headlined a ski-jumping film which sold a measly eight million tickets? - which sounds even sillier when you start thinking about the fact a good portion of the film is already in the can. The issue, sure enough, is dinero. Or at least that's what representatives from the film have cited.

The film started shooting in June, but mysteriously hit an all-stop early this month. Producers Blue Storm and Verdi Pictures kept telling the crew that the shoot would soon start again and to just wait another few days, but not only there isn't a set date for the next shooting day, there doesn't even seem to be vague plans indicating when it will happen, although the proverbial "soon" was the producers' line. Would be quite sad if the delays ended up negatively influencing the film, particularly considering the fact that Ha Jung-Woo starts shooting Na Hong-Jin's thriller 황해 (Yellow Sea) in about five weeks, so that could be quite the problem. If you think what all those start-stop shooting shenanigans did to something like Gong Su-Chang's GP506 (The Guard Post), then you can start worrying. If someone as talented and renowned in the film circuit as Lee Yoon-Gi has to face issues like these (financing mishaps are part of the game, yes, but this far into the shoot?), then... Houston, we have a problem.
