Though Fantastic Fest has not yet begun I actually had the chance to see to catch an advance screening of Zombieland in Toronto last night before hopping on a plane to Austin this morning. And you can find my full review at Showcase here. Verdict? It promises more than it delivers but when a film promises as much as Zombieland does it's quite possible to come up short and still end up with something pretty damn entertaining, which this is. And the opening sequence contains a ludicrous string of instantly iconic images.

Saw this last night, and am totally puzzled with how well recieved it's been. Fair enough, it is fairly entertaining and Woody Harrelson is a pretty funny guy here, but it never rises above mediocrity. As a comedy it isn't funny enough, and then obviously it's not really a horror or proper (gore + allegory) zombie film either. The plot just rambles with no actual developments of note and no real build up to the climax. It just sort of happens then stops. No tension or scares either. It is sweet I suppose, but for me it was just kind of OK for the whole ride. Even THAT cameo is over-rated - the Tropic Thunder one trumps it any day.
