The problem with cutting a trailer for a film like Jesper Ganslandt's The Ape is that you have to tell people something.  That's what trailers do.  They say "Here's a bit of the movie, wouldn't you like to see some more?"  And, yes, dammit, the trailer for this one does make me want to see some more but, as I said when I reviewed the film following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, this is very much one of those films where the less you know going in, the better off you are.  So I'm torn.  Do I recommend that you watch the trailer? Or should you stay away?  I've obviously made my decision since I'm posting it, but it wasn't an easy one to come to ... so just get on with it already.  Though The Ape didn't quite make my end of fest best-of list it certainly didn't miss by much.  This is one of the better films of the year and one that should firmly establish Ganslandt as a firm favorite of those hungry for intelligent spins of tired genres.

Krister, a husband and father wakes up to the consequences of a tragedy. He is a broken man, but not aware of it yet. Confronted with everyday reality, there is no place for escape and Krister is soon forced to face up to his actions. The Ape is about the struggle to hold on to things around us already lost. The question arises. What is left, when the life you once had is completely gone?

Well it doesn't give much away...leaves a lot of room for guessing. Good trailer. Looks like another great swedish film. Svenskeradder.

I guess you have to watch it to really get it. Without subtitles, the trailer didn't do anything for me...
