Subtitled "Countdown to Liquor Day" the boys are back on the big screen in what clearly looks like a big step up from their feature film debut (The Big Dirty). This time around, rather than introduce new fans to the cult (and genius!) Canadian show that ran for seven years on Canada's Showcase cable station, the powers that be have opted to simply wrap up the show with a big ol' feature after it officially finished its run in June 2007. For fans of the Trailer Park Boys in all its undiluted form, this is looks to be a very nice treat. By the sound of the basic plot synopsis, it is business as usual for the boys: Release from jail, robbery, rum and coke, and out-of-control conflict with Sunnyvale's superintendant. Trailer Park Boys 2 opens the Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax September 17 (Take that, TIFF!) in before being released in Canadian cinemas on September 25. Gotta love that One Sheet.
Ricky, Julian and Bubbles are about to get out of jail, and this time, Julian vows to go straight, even open a legit business. Soon the boys will all be rich. At least that's what they've told the parole board. But when they arrive back at the park, they find it's not the same old Sunnyvale, and it's not the same old Jim Lahey, Trailer Park Supervisor. Lahey's a new man, hasn't had a drink for two years. And he has plans—big plans—for Sunnyvale. But unfortunately for Lahey, Julian stands in his way. With his big plans for Sunnyvale going down the toilet, his relationship with Randy broken down, and having the Boys back in the park is all way too much pressure for him to bear. For Jim Lahey, the countdown to liquor day is on.

I just finished watching season 7. While I loved the first six seasons I found season 7 very unfunny. The synopsis here sounds like the first episode of season 7: Lahey's sober, the ending of the previous episode had everybody happy, and Julian wants a new start. Are they going to write off season 7? IIRC only Ricky and Ray were in jail, Julian was sitting on over $400K, Lahey was boozing again with Randy and the Rocc pile was being responsible.
I'm sure I'll check this out, but I really wish now I had not seen that last season.
And that poster does rock.
Season 7 was definitely weak - I even prefer the much-maligned 2006 feature film to it - but it had more than its fair share of laughs. Bad Trailer Park Boys is still better than 9/10 of what passes for half-hour TV comedy these days.
The series is currently airing in the US exclusively on DirecTV's Channel 101 at 10PM Thursdays. Sucks that it's satellite-only but it's far better than nothing.
