We have every good reason to keep our eyes on Russia of late. They're pumping out genre flicks like there was no tomorrow and some of those flicks speculate just that. Now Disney wants a piece of that Pirog, or Russian Pie, and Kniga Masterov is their first film for the Russian market. Near as I can tell the film sounds to be a mash of children’s adventure stories from the country’s most notable fairy tales and characters, other than that I have no clue as to what the actual story is. If I were to hedge a bet I would say that 'young boy must learn magic to defeat evil sorceress save the day and win the girl'. There certainly isn't any balking at the production values either as it looks tip top. And my grasp of Russian celebrities is slim to none but I recognize a couple faces and the cast is large and obviously noteworthy by Russian standards. It really is just a matter of observation and speculation on my behalf. Please, to our Russian friends, give us a hand here.

The poster is pretty neat but that trailer had me yawning... Heck, even if I knew Russian I probably still would be. We'll see...
