The Hurt Locker previews in London with a Kathryn Bigelow Q&A!

by James Dennis, August 6, 2009 3:04 PM

Now I know there's a few Kathryn Bigelow fans round here, so you'll possibly be as jittery with excitement as I am to find that she's taking part in a Q&A at the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Arts) in London on 19th August, following a preview screening of her new bomb-disposal thriller The Hurt Locker. Joining her on stage will be screenwriter Mark Boal, and as if that's not enough the ICA is also hosting matinee screenings of Near Dark and Point Break on the same day for only a fiver each!

You can book tickets here.

For a movie of this scope, size and quality, the excruciatingly slow roll-out of it has been painful to follow. This should be competing with the current crop of blockbusters out there. Seriously, what are SUMMIT doing with all their Twilight blood-money if they do not fully release wide-appeal films like BROTHERS BLOOM and HURT LOCKER?

I caught it a few weeks ago in a big cinema and it was more thrilling, thoughtful and intense than almost everything released this summer. One of the best films of the year so far, actually.

You're right and it feels like I've been waiting years for this to get a release... 28th August is the nationwide roll out here. It's a sad reflection on the general cinema going public that it's deemed a 'risky' film to distribute.

One of the top movies of this year, still don't understand why they are just sitting on this and not doing a wide release here in the states either. There is only ONE theater playing it out my way and when I took my folks to see it on a thursday it was packed.
