Jean Dujardin Is LUCKY LUKE!

by Todd Brown, August 6, 2009 2:57 AM

By that headline I don't just mean that Jean Dujardin has been cast as Lucky Luke. We've known that for ages, ever since word of the James Hellphone) Huth directed live action adaptation of the classic French comic book character was first announced. No, what I mean is that the first public teaser for the film has finally arrived on the scene and now everybody can see that Dujardin is Lucky Luke, the actor stepping into the overly-large shoes as if he was born to them. The attention paid to the source material here is truly remarkable, the film looking like it simply leapt up off the printed page. And if those character designs are looking familiar that'd be because one of the creators of Lucky Luke was also responsible for Asterix and Obelix ... check the teaser below the break!

That's already better than the Terrence Hill version.

Huth is a seriously talented director. I really wish people had gotten the chance to see Hellphone.

Most surprisingly, they managed to get his hair looking just like in the comic!

Hellphone was a hilarious Christine spoof and I was very surprised by its fantastic look. It was like a mix of Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Sam Raimi.
Everyone needs to track down a copy of it. Well worth the effort.

Wow a comic book adaptation where the main character actually looks like the one in the comics. See Hollywood, you don't need to redesign and leather everything up.

Nice, very nice. Agree with Gunde. I guess the tone they are using here is something in between the first Luke comics and the later ones, the action is more comically lethal than the more toddler-friendly tone Luke ended up with. Which is perfect.
