One of the best known manga artists in the world today, Japan's Go Nagai has won a horde of fans around the globe thanks to Cutie Honey and he's about to make waves with another cult title hitting the big screen.
"The Abashiri Family" are one of the most notorious mafia family members in the world. Even though their family consists of only five members, just the words "Abashiri Family" strikes fear in other gang members. The head of the mafia clan then decides to send to his cherished only daughter Kikunosuke (Erica Tonooka) to a boarding school. What the father doesn't know is that the boarding school are run by enemies of the Abashiri Family and they have no intentions of graduating their students ...
A live action adaptation of Go's manga has just been completed with Ultraman veteran Teruyoshi Ishii directing from a script by Sadayuki Murai (Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress) and pop starlet Erika Tonooka in the lead. No trailer yet, but it should be coming soon.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's totally low budget and totally trashy. It's from TMC (Lady Ninja Kasumi, Rinko 18, Sundome, etc.)
Can't say I'm surprised or too shocked, though it's still disappointing.

nothing wrong with the cheapies if they have some style and a sense of fun. One of my faves of the year was The Chasing World.

Never having been a Nagai fan I have zero interest in this film. However, I don't see how being low budget equates it with trash. The production values do not look terrible. In fact, the make-up and effects are better than what I would have expected for a Trash flicks. The Machine Girl and RoboGeisha trailers looked much worse and much trashier IMO.
Machine Girl and Robo Geisha look trashy, but know what they are and deliver it.
This looks inept.
I loved Machine Girl, so if it's fun you can count me in.
Looks like a lot of fun to me.
