Who says nothing ever comes of all those 48 hour film challenges running around the world? New web series Aidan 5 is an expansion of a short film created for one of those competitions, the series being created in Ohio by an all-volunteer group of talent and with no budget whatsoever. And they're turning that budget limitation into a major asset here. Shot entirely on green screen, the creators have made the fascinating decision to not make any attempt at photorealism whatsoever with their environments, instead leaving them hand drawn pencil drawings and giving the world a unique noir edge in the process.
The story? A nice noir touch there, as well ... set in the near future the main character is a hard boiled detective (of course) tracking down a serial killer whose targets are exclusively clones of the detective himself.
It's rough around the edges, as you'd expect, but the first episode has just released and there's obviously a good amount of talent behind this.
