The first Descent is a truly great piece of film, one of the best horror pictures of the past decade. The sequel? I've seen it and it aint. And not just because it's thoroughly unnecessary but also because it's hugely repetitive, filled with bad actors and devoid of original ideas. And the trailer is below the break. Icky.

I'm confident I will be able to refrain from ever watching this.
Agreed, this looks awful. I'm glad Neil Marshall is off doing other things.
Ouch.
I trust that you've seen it and it's awful, but I'll have to see it either way.
I'll be avoiding this like the plague. Really looking forward to Marshall's Centurion though!
It's one thing to say this movie sucked but it's entirely another to say it is an unnecessary sequel. Back in 1986, in the weeks before Aliens was released in theaters, people were also saying how unnecessary a sequel it was to Alien but look what happened after it was released. My point isn't that Descent part 2 will be nearly as good as Aliens let alone good at all, but that you can't deem a sequel unnecessary simply because the first one was good. If it sucked like you say it does, that still doesn't make the "unnecessary" claim true. It was simply a bad sequel that missed the opportunity to build off the success of an excellent part 1.
Wow. So they're really doing the 2 as an S? It looks like de 2 cent movie. You know, cuz it cost only two cents... thanks, I'll be all week.
In many cases I agree with you, Kakihara, but not all. There are films - The original Highlander being the classic example - where the story is so self contained and closed by the end of the run time that there really isn't room to make a sequel without first undoing a lot of what made the original good. There should never, ever have been any Highlander sequels because making them required first undoing the mythology established in the first. There was room for prequels, but not sequels.
The original Descent is not that extreme an example - there are still creatures underground, after all - but for the characters of the first one, the story is done. If they were going to do it, it required actually writing a new story, which nobody here bothered to do. They simply forced the girl from the first to go back down the hole and then repeated all the major scares from the first film, but not as well.
