Good news here for fans of current Korean film with word that Breathless from writer-director-star Yank Ik-June - a film that we're reviewed a whopping three times in these pages, from a film maker that I had the honor of sitting on a jury with at PiFan - has been picked up for theatrical distribution in Canada by fledgling start-up Cine-Asie.
Montreal, July 23, 2009 - Ciné-Asie Creatives, a Montreal-based distribution and coproduction company, has acquired the Canadian distribution rights to the award-winning Korean feature film, BREATHLESS by first-time director Yang Ik-june. With just a few days prior to its premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival, Ciné-Asie Creatives are proud to announce its second distribution title after Lee Yoon-ki’s award-winning feature MY DEAR ENEMY this fall.BREATHLESS powerfully depicts a story of a low-life debt collector in Seoul, Korea. Yang Ik-june (credited as writer, director and producer of this film) stars as Sang-hoon, a violent and unscrupulous gangster with a difficult past comes across Yeon-hee (played by Kim Kkobbi), a high school girl with an equally difficult present. After a rather precarious start, the two manage to form a fast friendship of sorts amidst the hardships of their daily life.
BREATHLESS is set to be released in 2010
More details as we get them.
